Bolshaw Animal Health challenges the safety of Formalin and copper sulphate at Livestock 2012

With Liquid Foot Care proven to be effective against digital dermatitis, Bolshaw took the opportunity presented by Livestock 2012 to stress the all-round benefits of LFC when compared to other footbath treatments such as copper sulphate and Formalin.

Jonathan Bolshaw said “Liquid Foot Care is great for slurry and the land. It can go straight in to the slurry and it will raise the pH level. When spread, this will improve soil conditions and fertility. Typically this will also improve drainage and increase aeration, stabilise the soil structure and reduce the need for expensive fertilisers. The same, of course, can’t be said for copper based products. As a non-degradable metal there is growing concern that copper toxicity is building to unacceptable levels and this makes disposal a real problem. Why contaminate your land and run the risk of copper getting in to the food chain?

Liquid Foot Care is great for the environment and it’s great for the farmer too. With no hazardous materials, there are no health concerns with Liquid Foot Care that you might find with other products such as Formalin. It amazes me that farmers continue to use a product like Formalin when it is a known carcinogenic in the USA and is clearly a health worry in the UK.”
